Fire Levies
The QFRS is the primary provider of fire and rescue services throughout Queensland, responsible for the protection of people, property and the environment from fire and chemical incidents, and for the rescue of people trapped in vehicles, buildings and other emergency situations.
More than 2200 full time and 2000 part time (auxiliary) fire officers and around 34,000 rural volunteer firefighters make up the operational staff of the QFRS, protecting a population of around 4.3 million Queenslanders living in urban, semi-urban and rural communities.
About 68 percent of the funding needed for the QFRS to provide its vital fire and rescue service is provided by urban fire levies, collected through Local Government rates. Other funding comes from the State and Commonwealth Governments and from a range of smaller fees and charges.
While firefighters are traditionally known for responding to emergency fires, your local fire service provides a vast range of other fire and rescue services as outlined on the About the QFRS page.
If you would like further information on your fire levy, please contact your local council.
