The Disaster Management and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2024 was introduced into the Queensland Parliament on 7 March 2024 by the Honourable Nikki Boyd MP, Minister for Fire and Disaster Recovery and Minister for Corrective Services.

The Bill has been referred to the Community Safety and Legal Affairs Committee for detailed consideration.

The Committee will examine the Bill and call for public submissions on the proposed legislation. Interested parties may make a submission as part of the Committee review process. Submissions made to the Committee are usually published on the Committee’s website.

Following receipt of public submissions, the Committee may also hold public hearings with submitters and other stakeholders regarding the proposed legislation.

The Committee process also includes a briefing by departmental officers on the Bill.  The Committee is then required to report on its examination of the Bill and may make recommendations about whether the Bill should be passed and whether the Bill should be amended.
