Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR) is responsible for ensuring the capacity of operational staff to respond in emergent situations as legislated in the Fire Services Act 1990. Traditionally the primary response has been to fire in the built environment, however this has evolved over time to meet the changing needs of the community to become a multi-hazard response. Queensland Fire and Rescue also encompasses focus on prevention and preparedness to avert emergency incidents as well as response and recovery. These activities include regional and community education, building fire safety, hazard identification and risk assessment and working with communities to plan and mitigate disasters.
