Local fire ban for South Eastern Region residents

The Rural Fire Service (RFS) has imposed a local fire ban for South Eastern Region residents.

The local fire ban will be in place from 00.01am on Sunday 20 November to 11.59pm on Monday 21 November for residents in the Gold Coast, Logan, Scenic Rim, Ipswich, Lockyer Valley and Somerset council areas.

The Fire Danger Rating for the region is expected to hit extreme on Monday with weather conditions creating an environment for bushfires to ignite and spread quickly.

Under a local fire ban all open fires are prohibited and all Permits to Light Fire which have been issued in the designated areas have been cancelled.

Power tools may be used during a local fire ban however the RFS encourages people to use these with extreme care and ensure adequate equipment is available to extinguish any fire which may start.

This may include having a person available to watch out for any ignitions that occur.

Information on fire bans and the exemptions that can apply can be found here: https://www.qfes.qld.gov.au/safety-education/using-fire-outdoors/fire-bans-and-restrictions
