Jim Sorensen Safe House Education Centre
The Bribie Island safe house is a comprehensive fire and emergency education centre open to school and community groups of all ages. Our staff use practical demonstrations to show how you can prevent and prepare for fires and emergencies.
Located at 12 Faraday Street, Bellara visits to the Safehouse are free and typically last 90 minutes, depending on the type of presentation delivered.
The Bribie Island Safe House is named in honour of Station Officer Jim Sorensen, who served as a firefighter with Queensland Fire and Rescue for 33 years. Sixteen years of his service were spent at Bribie Island Fire and Rescue Station, from 1985 until his retirement in 2000.

Home fire safety – causes of fires, preventing fires, what to do in a fire.
Features
- Simulated fire and smoke: We are able to simulate a bedroom or kitchen fire with smoke allowing visitors to better understand what they should do in a fire and why.
- Kitchen fire simulator: spectacular demonstration on how oil fires start, what not to do and how to safely extinguish them.
- Examples of common safety issues around the home and how fires start and spread.
- Home safety equipment display.
- Smoke alarm demonstration and recommendations.
Our staff such as firefighters provide community and fire safety lessons.

Bookings are provisional until confirmed.
The Bribie Island Safe House is also available to Emergency Services for training and incident management.
The Safe House and staff are subject to operational requirements. This means that the house or staff may be required in an emergency and your visit may be cancelled at short notice.

While the safe house is currently focused on fire prevention and safety we're considering the opportunity to expand the range of presentations available.
