Social media terms of use

We administer social media accounts using Facebook, Instagram and X platforms to provide important public safety information in a timely and efficient way between the hours of 6am to 5.30pm on business days.

During significant fire, flood, storm or cyclone events we may be active after hours, including on weekends.

Opinions posted by users on one or more of the social media accounts administered by us do not necessarily reflect the views or opinions of us or the Queensland Government.

Please note, our social media accounts are for public information only. Do not use our Facebook, Instagram or X accounts to report a fire or any other incident which requires an urgent response by emergency services.

For emergencies call Triple Zero (000).

We encourage respectful and open dialogue on our social media accounts so individuals may contribute opinions and views without being exposed to inappropriate content, offensive language or discriminatory views.

When contributing, do not post any material* that:

  • is racist, hateful, defamatory, libellous, derogatory, threatening, harassing, abusive, vulgar, obscene, discriminatory or humiliating to another person or organisation; 
  • is, or contains comments/ messages that could be considered prejudicial, racist or inflammatory;
  • vilifies individuals based on religion, gender, race, association or sexuality; 
  • contains pornography, nudity or offensive imagery, including in profile pictures;
  • is name calling, shaming and/or personal attacks;
  • promotes, for sale or otherwise, a product, business, company or organisation
  • infers endorsement of a product, business, company or organisation
  • infringes intellectual property** 
  • falsely represents another person, organisation, government or entity
  • contains personal information about you or another individual (including identifying information, email addresses, phone numbers or private addresses) without their consent
  • may interfere with or prejudice a court, commission or tribunal proceeding or similar body or investigation by police, Crime and Corruption Commissioner or other agency;
  • is, or contains, advertising, spam, selling or links to external sites. This includes posts used to direct traffic to other sites, blogs or Facebook pages.
  • Reports any offensive material on Facebook to this page or post a link to it. 

Complaints about offensive material should be made directly to Facebook.

We retain the right to remove or block any content that does not comply with our social media terms of use or that which we deem inappropriate.

Repeated violations of our comment and messaging policy may cause the author to be blocked from our social media accounts.

**Intellectual property covers a wide range of rights, including copyright, patents, industrial designs and trademarks that protect the product of original and creative effort. Copyright owners can prevent other from reproducing or communicating their work without the owner’s permission. 

Privacy policy for social media

Facebook, Instagram and X are not our websites or applications; they are controlled and operated by third parties, and the Queensland Government’s Privacy Policy does not apply. We do not own, manage, or control Facebook, Instagram or X. 

If you choose to provide information to Facebook, Instagram or X through registration or other interaction with each platform such actions are between you and the respective platform  

If you choose to register with Facebook, Instagram or X, any information that you post, provide or comment is voluntarily contributed by you. 

Although you may voluntarily contribute to Facebook, Instagram or X with the intent to share the information with others on our social media accounts, to protect your privacy, please do not disclose personal information about yourself or others, and any such use is in accordance with the social media terms of use. 

We will not be liable for, or responsible for, any breach of your privacy resulting from third-party social media applications.

We will not contact you directly via phone, mail, or email attempting to solicit information from you unless you request contact through a private message or via email to us.

Our collaboration with third-party applications and websites, including Facebook, Instagram and X, does not imply endorsement by us of the sponsors of the site, or any information, product, or service depicted on the site.

Comments posted on Facebook, Instagram and X and messages received by by through these platforms may be archived by us.
