I have a question about smoke alarms, when can I find more information?

Alarms

Where do I find information about monitored alarms?

Specialists in Alarm Services (SAS) is one of our services. Alarm monitoring is a service managed by SAS to ensure buildings which are either prescribed under legislation to have a direct turnout, or those that elect to have a direct turnout, receive an appropriate response in the shortest possible time, in the event a fire is detected by their fire detection systems. Assistance during or after a severe weather event

My property has been damaged by a weather event, where do I go to seek financial assistance?

We doesn't provide financial assistance directly. You can contact your local council to see what kind of support is available in your area or contact your insurance company. Alternatively, visit the Queensland Government website to find out if state government assistance is available to you.

Building safety

I am concerned an existing or new building is unsafe, who should I contact?

You can contact your local Community Safety Office with any building safety concerns. View our Compliance and Planning section for more information including contact details in your area.

Chemicals and the environment

I am concerned about the incorrect disposal of chemicals, what agency can I contact for further information?

We are not the agency that addresses concerns about chemicals entering the environment. The Department of Environment, Science and Innovation (DESI) and your local council are the best people to investigate your concerns. We are responsible for responding to hazardous condition incidents, such as a chemical fire or spill, but we do not regulate or address incidents of environmental pollution or incorrect disposal methods. Who can tell me how to dispose of chemicals correctly?

We are not responsible for the disposal of chemicals. Please refer to your local council for more information.

Community education

Where can I get tools and information to educate a young person about fire safety?

We do a lot of work in the community to inform and educate people about fire safety.  We deliver a Fight Fire Fascination program to support parents and guardians with their efforts to educate their children about fire safety. Information about this program and the form to request assistance can be found under Safety and Education.

Do you deliver a road safety program that is suitable for teenagers?

We do a lot of work in the community to inform and educate people about road safety. In particular, we provide a Road Attitudes and Action Planning (RAAP) program that supports schools with their efforts to educate their students about road safety.

Who can I contact to have a home safety assessment completed?

Safehome is a free service provided by us to householders in an urban fire service area.

Local firefighters will come to your home to assist you to recognise fire and safety hazards in and around the home. Once the hazards are identified you can then take steps to eliminate them.

Complaints and compliments

I would like to make a complaint about one of your staff members or volunteers, what is the process?

Complaints can be made through the State Government complaints form, or directly with complaints management.

Donations

I would like to donate something to you for training purposes, what is the process?

As a government department, we have strict policies and procedures around the donation of goods and services. Under these rules, we are unable to accept donations from the public for training purposes.

I would like to donate something to help after a disaster or severe weather event, where can I go to do this?

Thank you for your offer to donate goods or services for people affected by a weather event. We don't manage donations for events, these are looked after by GIVIT.

Fire hydrants

There is a problem with a fire hydrant, who should I contact?

We don't look after issues with hydrants or underwater pipes. Hydrants are the responsibility of your local council and pipes are the responsibility of your water supplier.

Firefighter exchange

I am interested in a firefighter exchange opportunity, what is the process?

We support reciprocal firefighter exchanges between Queensland firefighters and firefighters from overseas or other Australian states or territories.

There are no current transfer processes in place for international based applicants. We do have an exchange process in place; however conditions will apply. You will need to let us know which region you wish to work in so we can pass your information on to them to contact you. Find Regional Contacts across the state.

Firefighter visit

I would like a firefighter to visit a school or kindergarten, how can I organise a visit?

You can lodge your request on our website via our online enquiry form.

I would like to talk to a member of your media team, how do I contact them?

Occupier statements

Where should I send my occupier statement?

You can email us your statement as a scanned attachment. Please be aware that if there are any critical defects listed for the Fire Safety Installations listed in the annual statement, you are also required to supply details including procurement orders, work orders and completion invoices for the repair and rectification of those critical defects.

Overgrown properties

I have noticed a property is overgrown and could be a fire risk, who can I speak to?

We are not responsible for overgrown property concerns. For advice, please contact your local council.

Purchasing/procurement

Is it possible to sell something to you?

As a government department, we have strict policies and procedures around the procurement of goods and services. Under these rules, we are only able to purchase items from registered businesses, often through a comprehensive cost analysis and tender process. As a result, we are unable to purchase items from the general public.

I would like to buy a fire blanket or extinguisher, where should I go?

As a Government department, all procurement is conducted in accordance with the Queensland Procurement Policy. Our Procurement team manage these processes on behalf of the department. If we determine there to be an operational requirement for a product or service, this opportunity is advertised via public tender on the Queensland Government tender site. This site lists all upcoming tenders and the ability to register for tender notifications.

Where can I buy a firefighter calendar?

We don't produce the firefighter calendar. This is produced by a private business and is not affiliated with us in any way.

Recruitment 

I would like to join as a firefighter, what is the process?

All information about becoming a firefighter, fire communications officer, volunteer or public servant can be found under Join our team.

I would like to join as a public servant, what is the process?

All jobs are advertised on Smart jobs, the Queensland Government employment site.

I am a firefighter overseas and would like to join your organisation, what is the process?

At this point in time the only intake for firefighters is through our Recruit Firefighter recruitment process. Information on this can be found on our website. It is a requirement for application for firefighter and Station Officer positions that candidates are either Australian or New Zealand Citizens, or hold permanent residence status. We are unable to offer sponsorship.
